What one band is. One band is one minute of a playoff game. Purple means the away team led at the end of that minute, gold means the home team did, and the paler the band the closer the score.

Three things to look for.
You do not need to remember the data. You need to know what kind of shape the thing you are thinking of would make.
- Count the overtime.Every regulation game is exactly 48 bands. Anything longer went to overtime, five bands per period.
- Look for the run.A sudden switch from purple to deep gold is a run — usually the third quarter, when playoff games tend to break open.
- Use the bracket.All four options come from the same postseason, so the matchups that make sense together narrow it fast.
