Three things to look for.
You do not need to remember the data. You need to know what kind of shape the thing you are thinking of would make.
- Count the films.A 40-band strip is a prolific director. The decoys are always careers of similar length, so this narrows the field without solving it.
- Find the run.Most great directors have a stretch of four or five bright films in a row. Where that falls in the career is the clue.
- Remember the ending.A dimming tail is a director still working past their peak.
