Guess the movie from when Owen Wilson says "wow".
Two pools that ask the same question: how often does something get said? The first is Owen Wilson's "wow", timed through 20 of his films. The second counts "artificial intelligence" in 40 household-name companies' 10-K filings from 2011 to 2025.
Microsoft starts talking about AI in 2017 and never stops. Apple barely says it until the last three bands. Owen Wilson tends to save a "wow" for the third act.
What one band is. One band is a slice of time — five minutes of a movie, or one year of a company's annual reports. Pale cream means the phrase was not said at all; the deeper the orange, the more often it was.

Three things to look for.
You do not need to remember the data. You need to know what kind of shape the thing you are thinking of would make.
- Count the runtime.A movie strip is one band per five minutes, so its length is roughly the film's running time.
- Date the boom. For companies, the year the strip turns orange is usually the year they started selling AI.
- Silence is information.Long pale stretches are as telling as deep ones.
